if this latest missive from camp nado is anything to go by, were in for a scorching summer. for the eighteenth (though mysteriously numbered 014) release on the mancunian institution, messers moonboots and boardman invite a cosmopolitan cast from france and, well, yorkshire, to take us for a stroll through the surf. hulls renaissance man, steve cobby, takes centre stage on his label debut, collaborating with leeds musician rich arthurs on the a-side epic bushfarmer before showcasing his skill at the mixing desk with a b-side remix of penelope antennas sultry tradewinds, which also appears in all its original glory.

the second release on tb arthurs (312) label finds the mysterious artist revealing a collaborative project with magda as blotter trax. the pair first encountered each other at the famous motor city record store record time, when detroit artist bmg introduced his then co-workers magda and derek plaslaiko to arthur, who was visiting the shop from chicago. sometime after that meeting, magda and arthur went into the studio and jammed together for a week, the session was recorded live on analog 1/4 tape and then three tracks were selected for release. 1a is six and a half minutes of modulated synth sounds that are psyched out and sci-fi, spooky and truly atmospheric. full of cerebral cinematism, acid lines and ghoulish textures all add up to a truly standout track. 2a then marries dark wave pops and clicks, unsettling alien lifeforms and menacing, slo motion industrial drums into a physical and imposing groover riddled with paranoid sirens and drones. last of all, 2b snakes and slithers its way through undulating drums, cosmic freakiness and gloopy synth sounds that are all seductive and subversive in equal measure. this, then, is a truly fascinating pairing.

master mix tells the story of arthur russell, exploring his music and ongoing relevance to a new generation of artists. showcasing the diversity of arthurs musical worlds, each artist reinterpreted one of his tracks in their own style in tribute to his influence. features tracks from hot chip, robyn, blood orange, sufjan stevens, jose gonzalez and many more. the triple vinyl lp includes a download code for the full album.

wilde calm records is proud to present some say, a recently discovered song from the archive of arthur russell. the track was produced and mixed by arthur in 1985 for a solo project of steven halls that was originally intended for release on rough trade records. legendary disco producer bob blank recorded and engineered the project at his connecticut-based studio. some say features arthurs classic cello basslines, cracking boom bap drums and stevens floating vocals and synth pads. in true arthur fashion, the song abrubtly stutters, slinks and lurches halfway through for steven to complete his buddhist pop mantra. the b-side features an extended rework of some say by pocketknife using arthurs boss dr. rhythm dr-55 drum machine.

such is the importance of russells contribution to the modern music scene that many consider his work to be untouchable but several modern day producers have carefully picked out key elements of his songs whilst recording entirely new and up to date soundtracks. yam who?, faze action, singer mary moore, nycs pocketknife have worked hard to create entirely new instruments and vocals with additional remix work coming from radio slave. in addition peter gordon who worked with arthur russell on many of the original releases has collaborated. adding his musicianship to the newly created cover of >go bang<. further collaborations from arthurs friends and musicians, steven hall & joyce kirby, also provide a new version of >lucky cloud< which is produced by nycs pocketknife.
